Taking industrial automation to another level with digital twin virtualisation platform
Nvidia and Siemens partner to open a new digital open platform, to feature hardware, software and digital services, before they go live.
In creating an industrial metaverse, German technology powerhouse, Siemens, partners chip designer Nvidia Corp to build a virtual reality for companies to simulate product design and other innovations.
Like simulating a scenario in a Star Trek 'holodeck', virtualising the production design with a digital twin in 3D, can help reduce operational risks and increase uptime.
The platform will dramatically reduce the costs of running their factories, and buildings and speed up new product design before it actually goes live.
3D-Virtualisation for Industrial Design
Taking industrial automation to new levels, the partnership brings together Siemens's Xcellerator vast industrial ecosystem and Nvidia's Omniverse through an AI-enabled virtual engine.
The collaboration between the German technology with the AI partner promises to create an open digital platform that is powered by Cloud technology. The platform will feature hardware, software and digital services, and become part of Siemens' ambition to grow its digital business by 10% per year from the 5.6 billion euros (S$8.15 billion) generated in 2021.
The German technology recently bought over Brightly Software for US$1.58 billion (S$2.2 billion), is moving further into the digital space to offer faster growth rates and higher margins than its traditional business of trains, industrial drives and automation.
Siemens and Nvidia are just two of the companies which are working in the so-called metaverse, which refers broadly to the idea of a shared virtual platform that people can access through different devices and where they can move through digital environments.

Siemens's Xcelerator will be the term for services which will allow customers to visualise yachts or factories, for example, before construction starts."
