Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS President, said, "By joining forces with Microsoft Research Asia, we hope to drive cutting-edge advancements, translate research into real-world applications, and nurture AI talent with a global perspective."

Accelerating progress

NUS's AI-driven research with Microsoft Research Asia seeks to enhance cross-disciplinary research capability. The collaboration aims to accelerate progress in key areas, including healthcare, societal AI, spatial intelligence, and data-intensive computing.

Cultivating next-generation talent

NUS and Microsoft Research Asia have also inked a five-year research collaboration agreement for a Joint PhD Supervision Programme. The programme aims to cultivate interdisciplinary tech professionals and drive the integration of AI technology across various industries.

The partnership involves nurturing PhD students through the Industrial Postgraduate Programme (IPP), a programme supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) that enables globally leading companies to develop talent aligned with industry needs, and PhD programmes offered by the NUS School of Computing.
